Obesity in America, Depression, and Cosmetic Weight Loss Alternatives

Obesity in today’s youth can’t solely be attributed to overeating and lack of exercise. It’s important we understand that excessive weight gain can be influenced by heredity and familial behavior. Even Psych 101 tells us overeating can be a behavioral problem.

In a reputable piece published by Medical News Today, doctors from the University of Adelaide linked obesity directly with depression. Specifically, Dr. Evan Atlantis goes on to state “Although the topic is largely unexplored, several psychosocial, lifestyle and physiological factors may be involved in the complex inter-relationship between obesity and mental illness…”

Subsequent feelings of low self esteem, low self worth, and guilt often contribute greatly to a person’s every day eating habits. Dr. Atlantis goes on with stating “Obesity may constitute a chronic stressful state, which in turn can cause significant physiological dysfunction. Such dysfunction would then predispose individuals to depressed mood and associated symptoms.”

Ultimately, this dysfunction would activate the endocannabinoid system, which in turn, increases appetite and may all together alleviate depression.

Some of the most comment causes of obesity in the world today are:

This domino affect allows many people to dig themselves holes in regards to weight gain and depression. It’s not an easy task to eliminate excessive fat due to depressive symptoms. How to lose weight being a vegetarian and a teen?

I’m 14 years old 5’1” and 145 pounds. I’m trying to find ways to lose weight being a vegetarian. Almost everything I look at ( what your supposed to eat, recipes etc.) says to eat meat/fish at least once a day for protein to help you lose weight. Can someone please give me things to eat everyday being a vegetarian and exercises to do to help me lose weight?

It sounds strange, but some people have reported that they lost more weight when they drank black coffee before a workout. How to lose weight without walking too much or running?

I am gaining weight by not doing much.I have had 3 surgeries on my knees.I have a degenerative bone disease and I cannot walk alot or run because its painful and will make it worse.I dont want to sit around and gain weight. I used to be very active.Just diesting is not doing much.Does anyone have any ideas on how to work out and lose weight without running or walking? Maybe a diet? HELP!

I stongly recommend you YOGA. it doesnt need to do walking or running. YOGA may help you lose weight and keep good condition for you. but I think you should eat anything less than before cause you cant do kind of walking. youll have a nice body.

I have been looking at diets on the web and narrowed it down to Fat Loss 4 Idiots or the Diet Solution Program. Doesn’t anyone have experience of them or can tell me which is going to be the best one for me to do? I have seen quite a few reviews but most of them look like there trying to promote or sell the diet.
